Turn a blind eye

The idiom to turn a blind eye means to choose to ignore something that you know is wrong. A person may turn a blind eye to something because they think taking action would require too much effort, or they may simply believe that the bad behavior is not such a serious offence.

For example:
i. How can we turn a blind eye to the millions of children in poverty?
ii. The usher turned a blind eye to the little boy who sneaked into the theater

“turn a blind eye” という表現は、間違っていると分かりながらもそのことを無視するという意味です。
行動を起こす程のことではない、もしくは単にその悪い行いはそれほどの危害を加えないと思うときに、知らないふりをして見過ごすということです。

・何百万人といる貧困に苦しむ子供達からどうして目を背けることができるのですか？
・係員は映画館にこっそり入りこんだ小さな男の子を、見て見ぬふりをした。
