The previous tip made the point that if you are studying for the IELTS test, or just trying to improve your vocabulary, you should read articles on topics that you are interested in. This makes so much sense. Studying a language is tough, and it only gets tougher if you have to struggle through boring information!
Below are links to a variety of websites with interesting articles. You may find some of them interesting. If not, keep looking. There are plenty of great websites out there. If you still can’t find anything, please ask your teacher next time you come in for a lesson.
When choosing an article to read, you should consider how long it is. If you want to simulate the IELTS test, then remember that the passages used in an IELTS test range from 600-1200 words. The average length is somewhere around 750 words. Choosing an interesting, appropriately-length article is the best way to improve your vocabulary and reading fluency - just be sure to record and review the new vocabulary. And, don’t forget to pay attention to the use of synonyms and paraphrases!
