Green with envy

  • 2015.08.21

In English we often use colors in creative ways to describe how we feel. Here is an interesting example.
"Green with envy"
This idiom is used to describe a person who wants very much what someone else has. The use of the color green to mean the feeling of envy is very old. It was even used by Shakespeare in one of his plays.
For example: “Tom just bought a new car and I’m green with envy.”
