Par for the course

A behavior that is not good, but is usual or typical, is said to be “par for the course”. This idiom is related to the sport of golf. A player who shots par goes around the course in the usual or expected number of strokes.

For example:
It seems the price of gasoline will go up again, but that’s par for the course these days.

「Par for the course」は、特別良いわけではなく、普通でありきたりな行いのことを言います。この慣用句はゴルフから来ています。コースでパーを打つのは、ある程度のストローク数が既に予想されている、ということからこの表現は由来しています。
